Ingredients
You need the following:
- 1 lb dry ziti pasta
- 1lb Italian sausage
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
- 28oz can crushed tomatoes
- 4oz can sliced mushrooms
- 4 cups ricotta cheese
- 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 8oz mozzarella, shredded
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Ready to heat up your kitchen? Follow these steps.
- Preheat oven to 375° F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with oil.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage, onion, garlic, onion powder, garlic powder, and crushed red pepper until sausage is evenly cooked. Drain any excess fat.
- Add crushed tomatoes, mushrooms, and sugar. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook ziti for about 8 minutes, until just al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water.
- In a large bowl, stir together ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, parsley, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper.
- To assemble, spread 1/3 of the sauce over the bottom of prepared baking dish. Layer 1/2 of the ziti, 1/2 of the ricotta cheese mixture, 1/3 of the sauce, and 1/2 of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat layering with remaining ziti, ricotta cheese mixture, sauce, and mozzarella cheese.
- Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese over the top. Bake for 25 minutes, until lightly browned and bubbly.
- Serve and enjoy!
