Ingredients

You need the following:

  • 1 lb dry ziti pasta
  • 1lb Italian sausage
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 28oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 4oz can sliced mushrooms
  • 4 cups ricotta cheese
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 8oz mozzarella, shredded
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Ready to heat up your kitchen? Follow these steps.

  1. Preheat oven to 375° F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with oil.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage, onion, garlic, onion powder, garlic powder, and crushed red pepper until sausage is evenly cooked. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add crushed tomatoes, mushrooms, and sugar. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook ziti for about 8 minutes, until just al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water.
  5. In a large bowl, stir together ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, parsley, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper.
  6. To assemble, spread 1/3 of the sauce over the bottom of prepared baking dish. Layer 1/2 of the ziti, 1/2 of the ricotta cheese mixture, 1/3 of the sauce, and 1/2 of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat layering with remaining ziti, ricotta cheese mixture, sauce, and mozzarella cheese.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese over the top. Bake for 25 minutes, until lightly browned and bubbly.
  8. Serve and enjoy!
